On August 21, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released two new resources to support drinking water systems and states in implementing the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI). The new Access Tips and Service Line Inventory Tips documents provide practical information, definitions, and examples intended to help water systems understand and implement existing requirements related to lead service line replacement. EPA requested public input on the resources in April 2026 and incorporated feedback into the final documents.

EPA also updated its lead-related website with information intended for water systems, contractors, health professionals, parents and other stakeholders, including resources focused on lead exposure and children’s health: EPA Lead Resources
In addition, EPA highlighted its Real Water Technical Assistance program, which provides assistance to communities and water systems addressing water infrastructure challenges and funding needs. EPA also noted that nearly $3 billion in funding has been announced this year for lead pipe identification and removal.
